The NMAHM® in Professional Practice
..... professional application of the Neuromuscular Approach to Human Movement (NMAHM)®
The Approach is probably better known within professional healthcare practice for its application in manual handling where it directly promotes safer practice as an immediate consequence of its person-focused nature.
Others have realised the potential within the NMAHM® for creating a potentially seamless process of care for people whether through facilitatory movement, provision of handling assistance, enabling enhanced quality of care in relation to handling in any appropriate situation etc.
From direct and vicarious experience within the clinical field it appears an eminently suitable foundation and/or adjunct to support other therapies, including various of the complementary therapies where standard exercises etc conflict with the concept, philosophy and/or practice of the given therapy.
Where movement education, re-education, rehabilitation and/or re-ablement (whether related to therapeutic processes, or as an element of case management) is required, or forms an associated element of services required to be offered, programmes can be created for beneficial application in many different areas of personal and professional movement/movement-related (including clinical) practice. The degree of ability will necessarily be informed by the knowledge and accumulated experience of the NMAHM® student/practitioner.
Review of the list of available courses may indicate to the reader that once the concept, philosophy and essential theory underpinning the Approach has been established with a student a series of defined, and mutually supportive clinical skills can be developed.
